Is it safe to have sex during the coronavirus outbreak?

Sex is a normal part of everyday human life, during the corona epidemic, if you and your partner have been self-isolating, then these are ways to add zing to your the sex life during quarantine together. As we know we’re not supposed to touch our faces in these coronavirus-riddled times, but some body parts we can touch on yourself and others.

It is not sexually transmitted and we’re not seeing patterns that indicate sexual transmission. It’s primarily spread through respiratory droplets and touching contaminated surfaces is thought to be another mode of transmission.

Dr. Anup Dhir Director Alpha one Andrology fellow of European council of sexual medicine said, “There is no evidence that the Covid-19 can be transmitted via either vaginal or anal intercourse. As kissing is a very common practice during sexual intercourse, and the virus can be transmitted via saliva hence the virus can be transmitted by kissing . Avoid kissing if your partner has recently travelled abroad. It is safe to do so after 2 weeks. There is also evidence of oral-fecal transmission of Covid-19 and that implies that analingus may be a risk factor for coronavirus infection”.

If you or your partner is a suspected Covid-19 case, the advice is to steer clear of each other as much as possible and live in different rooms till the test results are available.

But for people who don’t have symptoms and don’t have any recent likely exposure and have been staying at home, with your regular sexual partner and you don’t have any symptoms, or a history of exposure, continuing with sexual activity is a great way to have fun, stay connected and relieve anxiety during this hard and stressful time.

The advice at present is to stay home as much as we can and really only interact with people for things that are essential, like groceries. And even when we do that, try to keep some physical distance of about two meters from other people. That would make casual sex a challenge.

All interpersonal contact has to be limited to the absolute necessity and as a result Sexual intercourse may actually decrease during the next few weeks, but other forms of expressing eroticism, such as sexting, video-calls, reading erotica and masturbation can be good .Please remember, you are your safest sex partner.

Masturbation is a good option as it will not spread COVID-19, especially if you wash your hands and sex toys if you use them, with soap and water for at least 20 seconds before and after sex.
